I don't know all that much about raising kids, but it seems to me the later on in life you make that adjustment, the harder it would be. If you start now, he's probably going to be more ok with it than if he was like 2 and old enough to tell you no and stand in the bed screaming at you. Right now he might cry...if he even realizes he's in a different bed (which I am sure he does)...but it's better than later when he can launch a baby bottle across the room and hit you in the head or something, lol.
