My Mother’s Day

Last year, I spent my first Mother’s Day doing laundry, cleaning house, and fighting with my husband.  The day ended with my breaking down and crying on my husband’s shoulder in bed and telling him that all that I do around here, all that I give is completely unappreciated and unnoticed.  This is a common complaint from SAHMs.  Thankfully that complaint did not fall on deaf ears.  This year’s Mother’s Day was so wonderful that I am compelled to get on my computer and brag about it to the internet.  And Internet, I have every right to gloat!

Jessie woke up early with Lukas and let me sleep in.  Present #1.  Then he woke me up with a fantastic card from my favorite stationary store signed by himself and my son (Lukas’ signature was a bunch of squiggles, but precious all the same).  I was then instructed to come downstairs where breakfast was waiting for me.  On the table was a vase containing orange and yellow Gerber Daisies, possibly the happiest flower in the world.  I had a take-out breakfast of French toast, eggs, English muffins, and bacon as well as a Chai tea Latte and orange juice.  Obviously that isn’t the kind of breakfast that one can eat in bed.  I ate all of it, and then started regretting it 15 minutes later.  I need to stop with that “clean my plate” mentality.  I can thank my parents for that.

I was then instructed to go take a nice long shower.  I was given a gift set of bath gel, lotion, and body splash from Bath and Body Works in my favorite scent of Warm Vanilla Sugar.  I took a nice long shower, took my time to getting around (a luxury I no longer get to indulge very often due to my beautiful son), and relaxed while Lukas napped.  Jessie then told me that I should put some jewelry on for the day.  After some hesitation, I went to my jewelry box, discovered a velvet box inside and found my next present:  a necklace containing a sapphire, Lukas’ birthstone.

When Lukas woke up, we went to our favorite park and Jessie surprised me again with a picnic lunch.  We played outside as a family for an hour or two and then decided to spend the evening at home watching movies.  We did have dinner reservations, but there was just too much food already and there was no way I was going to be hungry.  The rest of the night was spent playing with Lukas and watching Wes Anderson movies.  It was perfect.  I am thankful that I was blessed with such a wonderful little family.

Your husrband, though stinky, is a wonderful husband and father. You have the kind of family that we wanted as kids. Your son will grow up with both of his parents and know that he is loved…I am so happy for you guys. Yes, there are struggles, but me and Helen have bets that you and Jessie are forever. Every time someone gets married we say yay or nay…you were the yay :)
For mothers day, I, for the first time in my life, actually did something very thoughtful for my mom. As you know, I have a hard time with what to get my mom for ANY occasion. Usually I get her a card and that’s it because I really never have any ideas or we are fighting…so it’s never a good time. Anyhow, this year mom and I are talking. I think we have about the best relationship that we can have without getting on each others nerves, lol. So I wanted to do something for mom that I usually dont, and put some thought itno it. She is working in Boone County (I know…yikes!), but she came in on Friday, but left on Saturday. So Saturday she came into the bar to see me where I gave her a card. Cards are hard for me because I don’t like sappy ones, but this year I found a card that was like a journal where it would say, “The hardest I ever laughed is when…” and then I had to write an answer. It had like 4 pages of things like this…so I took my time and actually did a good job.
So she went back to Boone County Saturday everning. I asked her as much as I could possibly ask her to find out EXACTLY where the bridge she is working on is located. I didn’t want her to know why I was asking. So I searched the internet and located the nearest flower shop. (Yes…there are flower shops in Boone county, lol…3 of them in Madison alone!). I didn’t want to do flowers because they die to easy, so I went with a chocolate/fruit basket. So tommorrow (when she is LEAST likely to expect it, lol) they are going to deliver the basket while she’s working ON THE BRIDGE, LOLOLOLOL! I think it will surprise her, and she is camping right next to the bridge, so she can run the basket to the camper without the chocolate melting, lol. I think she’ll be surprised because I have NEVER done anything like this (or close, for that matter) before. Plus her coworkers will see it and she will have proof that she does have kids, lol. She’s the only woman on the bridge, lol, so I told the delivery lady that she’d be easy to spot :)

She’s going to call you crying. That is so sweet, Asch. Seriously. Can I adopt you and you can do nice things like that for me…because…you know….I need MORE love. :)

And yes, that chest pic was a little premeditated. The lesbians appreciate it…and I am a friend of the lesbian community and a sneaky, almost tasteful cleavage shot is like a smiley face!
